With the world’s focus firmly set on improving our greenhouse emission, eco friendly funerals have gathered momentum in Australia.
Natural burials provide a unique and environmentally accessible alternative to traditional interment.
There are two ‘green‘ cemeteries in our region, both following similar guidelines adhering to Council regulations requiring protection of the local environment.
Northern NSW has the Lismore ‘Green‘ Cemetery and the Gold Coast uses The Alberton ‘Green’ Cemetery. (This is an existing cemetery at the Northern boundary of the Gold Coast just off the Brisbane corridor.) Both utilize natural, unspoilt areas.
Green burials are unique. Only one person can be interred in the grave, usually at a shallower depth and no grave markers or plaques are permitted. An eco-friendly, bio degradable coffin is again required to comply with Council requirements. These coffins will allow the remains to return to the earth naturally.
Our thorough research into eco friendly coffins has revealed a suitable selection of products. These include cardboard, plantation pine, eco burial pods and the popular willow/wicker range.
All products are constructed and teamed with eco friendly components ensuring the final footprint is eternally minimized.
