Checklist for Arranging a Funeral

The day of a funeral can be extremely daunting, and not something you ever want to plan for. However, if it has fallen to you to do just that, there are some things you can take care of before the day itself. Not only will they take some of the stress out of the occasion, pre-planning can give you confidence. As leading suppliers of pre-arranged funerals, the funeral directors at A Gentle Touch Funerals recommend the benefits of doing this. As a guide, we have set out a checklist to help.

Choose a Funeral Director

This is the most important decision you will make. Find a business you can trust and communicate with properly. Research local firms thoroughly to find a family run business who will carry out your wishes exactly. A good funeral director will give advice but never push you into any decisions.

Choose a Time and Place

If the deceased has let their preference be known, this will hopefully be an easy choice. Location may well depend on the culture, religion or otherwise of the deceased. Choose a time to suit you.

Decide on Burial or Cremation

Again, the deceased may well have made their thoughts on this known in life. If not, this is a decision you should make quickly. There are many pros and cons of both type of service, including family preferences. It is vital you choose early and stick to your decision.

If the service is to be a burial, decide on the following:

Plot within the cemetery

The management team should offer you a choice of locations. Choose which one you think right for the deceased, family and friends.

Attire for the Deceased

For burials, you may want to choose clothing and or jewellery to adorn the deceased in the coffin.

Monumental Mason

There are a number of monumental masons who will create a headstone for the grave. Again, local research will be invaluable here. They will also help you choose a suitable monument to commemorate the deceased, if appropriate.

There are no so many arrangements to be made for cremation. The two main ones are:

Cremation Urn

There is a large range of urns to choose from at our Mudgeeraba funeral director. You should be able to find one to suit the personality of the deceased.

After cremation, decide what to do with the remains of the deceased. Some people choose to have their ashes scattered in a special place or way. You may otherwise choose yourself or a particular friend or family member to keep the remains.
